Common questions

Can I download it?

Next Cup is on its way to the App Store, for iPhone with iOS 27 or later. It is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. Say hello if you’d like to hear when it is out.

Do I need an AI key?

No. Logging, the timer, recipes, beans and your history all work without one, and without a connection. The AI features are optional. With no key, Next Cup uses Apple’s on-device model where Apple Intelligence is available, and nothing leaves your iPhone. To use OpenAI or Anthropic instead, add your own key in Settings → AI.

Where are my brews kept?

On your iPhone, and nowhere else of ours. Next Cup also keeps up to seven daily backups on the phone, so a bad day can be undone. To take your journal with you, export it as CSV or JSON from Settings → Your data.

The suggestion for tomorrow seems wrong.

It is a starting point, not a rule. Suggestions come from your taste answer, the recipe and your recent brews of the same coffee, and they only change your recipe when you tap to use one. AI answers can be wrong too, so trust your tongue.

The barcode scan did not find my coffee.

The barcode number is looked up in Open Food Facts, a free public product database, and plenty of small-roaster bags are not in it. Type the details in, or use Fill from a photo and check what it reads.

Do I have to share my location to find roasters?

No. You can type a city or move the map instead. If you tap Use my location, iOS asks first, Next Cup asks for your approximate location only, and uses it for that one search.

The timer is silent.

Sound is on to start with. If you turned it off, tap the speaker button on the timer to bring back the tick, the step chimes and the music. They play even with the ring switch on silent, but not with the volume all the way down.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Your data → Delete all data. It removes your journal, drafts, backups and AI keys, and offers Undo for a short time. Deleting the app also removes its data from the phone.

Does it track me?

No. There is no account, no analytics and no server of ours. The privacy policy lists exactly what the app sends, to whom, and when.

Things it will not do

These are permanently out of scope. Each one makes the app worse at the single thing it’s for.

  • Accounts, sign-in or subscriptions.
  • Ads, analytics, social feeds or sharing with other people.
  • Change a recipe, or send anything to an AI provider, without your tap.

Reporting a bug

Tell us what you did, what you expected and what happened instead, plus your iPhone model and iOS version. A screenshot helps. Please do not send your journal or an export of it. We do not need it.
