Common questions
The volume went down on its own. Is it broken?
No, that is Sleep working. Once you tap the Moon, NightCast waits, then fades the episode out in steps and pauses it. It is the whole point of the app. Tap the Moon again to cancel, and the volume glides back up.
Why did the fade not start when I expected?
The countdown only advances while audio is actually playing. Time spent paused, buffering, or with the episode stopped does not count. That is deliberate: pausing to find the light switch should not eat your timer.
Can I set an exact number of minutes?
There is no picker. Tap the Moon and NightCast chooses a sensible wait, then you nudge it with the −5 and +5 buttons in the bubble above the Moon. One tap to start is the design; a time picker at bedtime is not.
Will it play the next episode after this one?
Never. Not when an episode ends, and not when Sleep reaches zero. There is no autoplay and no queue.
Can I download episodes to listen offline?
Not at the moment. NightCast streams. If you need offline listening, it is not the right app for you yet.
I cannot find a show in search.
Search uses Apple's public podcast directory. If a show is not in that directory, NightCast cannot find it, and a few shows in it do not publish a usable feed address. Apple also rate-limits the search service, so if you type very fast for a long time, results may pause for a moment.
Does it track me?
No. There is no account, no analytics and no server of ours. The privacy policy explains exactly which servers the app contacts and why.
Things it will not do
These are permanently out of scope. Each one makes the app worse at the single thing it's for.
- Autoplay the next episode.
- Accounts, sign-in, onboarding or subscriptions.
- Social features, recommendations built from your behavior, or ads.
- AI summaries, transcripts or a queue manager.
